My Inspiration: the why behind my books
Just as I always knew I’d be a teacher when I grew up, I also knew that one day I would write children’s books. As a Kindergarten teacher, I read aloud often to my students. I know first hand the power of a thoughtfully created book.
In writing, How to Be the Best You Can Be in Kindergarten, I leaned into my teaching background to think of all the soft skills children need to feel successful. The book is thoughtfully illustrated with drawings that show diversity, inclusion, finding independence and developing a growth mindset.
I have been fortunate to help several families who are new to Canada, which was the inspiration for my second
book,Welcome to School in Canada. It is my deepest hope that this book will help with their adjustment to
school.There are several translations of this book for the many Newcomers that are arriving in Canada.
My desire to write more children’s books continues to be strong. I often see inspiration for other books
as situations arise with my students. I have several other book ideas and drafts that will help students
withdifferent aspects of finding success at school.
